Title- Women & Wealth: Planning Strategies for Today’s Female Clients

    Abstract-

Women are projected to control a significant majority of U.S. wealth over the coming decades due to longevity trends, inheritance, entrepreneurship, divorce, and demographic shifts. Despite this growing economic influence, research continues to show that many female clients feel underserved, misunderstood, or excluded in financial, legal, and insurance planning conversations.

This multidisciplinary panel brings together an estate planning attorney, a financial advisor, and an insurance professional to examine the unique financial, legal, and risk management challenges women face across life stages. The session will explore issues such as longevity risk, caregiving responsibilities, income disparities, divorce and widowhood planning, business ownership, beneficiary structuring, and long-term care strategies.

Panelists will discuss best practices for client communication, ethical considerations, fiduciary responsibility, and collaborative planning techniques that better serve female clients while strengthening overall client outcomes. Practical case examples will illustrate how advisors can build more inclusive, effective planning strategies and how spouses and partners can better support shared financial decision-making.

Participants will leave with actionable strategies to enhance their advisory approach and improve planning outcomes for women and families.

    Speakers-

    Sue Hunt, JD

With three decades of legal experience, Sue Hunt has dedicated her career to helping families enhance their lives today and secure their futures. As a strategist who loves both puzzles and people, Sue excels at analyzing the many threads of her clients’ lives. She listens carefully to their goals and priorities, guiding them through the often-confusing maze of legal decisions to create customized estate plans that best protect their families and achieve their objectives.

Sue’s extensive background in family law, real estate law, and small business law equips her to address a myriad of issues that may arise in family planning. Her legal expertise spans family protection, wealth preservation, elder law, and values-based planning. She also creates strategies for unmarried couples, same-sex couples, blended families, and divorced individuals. Whether her clients are married or single, have traditional or blended families, are just starting out or reflecting on a life well-lived, Sue helps them craft plans that meet their goals for their loved ones today and for years to come.

Sue earned her Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and her Juris Doctor from Wake Forest University School of Law in 1994. She is a member of the North Carolina State Bar, the North Carolina Bar Association, the Greensboro Bar Association, the Financial Service Advisors Council (Greensboro), WealthCounsel—a national organization of estate planning attorneys and financial professionals, EPiC Peer Group, and the Women’s Professional Forum. Additionally, Sue serves on the Board of Directors for Sanctuary House of Greensboro and the Financial Service Advisors Council.

Originally from Springfield, Illinois, and raised in Rising Sun, Indiana, Sue has called Greensboro, North Carolina, her home since 1989. She is passionate about educating her community and frequently speaks on topics such as family and wealth protection planning, wills and trusts, advance directives, and protecting family inheritances.

    Jennifer McCosley, CFP, CAP, ChSNC

Jenny McCosley is a Senior Wealth Advisor based in Beacon Pointe’s North Carolina office and is responsible for partnering with the Beacon Pointe investment, operations, and financial planning teams to provide customized solutions that help clients meet their financial goals. Jenny finds the people she works with as fascinating as finance, and she enjoys helping individuals and couples bring to life their retirement goals. Her appreciation for families comes from her own upbringing as the second oldest of eleven children, with three sisters and seven brothers. Nine of Jenny’s ten siblings are adopted, and three of those nine are special needs children. Jenny brings her lived experiences and technical expertise together when working with families of individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDDs). Jenny is a Campbell University alum and holds the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® (CFP®), the Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy® (CAP®) and the Chartered Special Needs Consultant® (ChSNC®) designations. Outside of the office, Jenny devotes her spare time to her family and to the Peacehaven Community Farm, where she serves as the board (Chair 2023-2024).

Julia earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Strategic and Organizational Communication Studies from West Virginia University in 2016. She then moved to Greensboro, North Carolina, to attend Elon University School of Law, where she earned her Juris Doctor degree in 2018. Outside of work, Julia enjoys spending her free time reading, learning a new craft, or hiking, appreciating the beauty of nature, and being in the fresh air—pastimes that remind her of her roots in West Virginia. Julia is also a devoted wife to her husband, Lucas, and a loving mother, embracing the joys and challenges of balancing her career and family life.
